Safaricom Replaces Kris Senanu With Cynthia Karuri

Safaricom has announced the appointment of Cynthia Karuri as the new Chief Enterprise Officer, effective 1^st September.

Cynthia comes in to replace Kris Senanu who left the telco in May this year having served for exactly a year. This appointment adds to Safaricom’s list of recent new faces in its executive roles. The corporation is Kenya’s largest, and arguably one of Africa’s leading telcos.

After Senanu’s departure, the telco had appointed Joseph Wanjohi who has been serving in acting capacity. Wanjohi will stay at Safaricom assuming the role of Head of Enterprise Sales.

Cynthia will now join the telco from AT&T Inc. spanned 19 years, having joined BellSouth in 2003 as a Senior IT Client Account Management Lead before taking on the role of Director, Mobile Service Delivery and Operations, for Cingular Wireless in 2008.

In 2010, she was appointed ATAT Global Lead and Director, Enterprise Solutions and Sales Support, role she held until 2019 when she took up her latest role as Senior Director, Enterprise Mobile and IoT Technologies.

Safaricom’s CEO Peter Ndegwa has expressed his excitement following the appointment of Cynthia Karuri to the telco.

“With over 20 years’ experience in the Telecommunications sector, Cynthia has a wealth of knowledge in various crafts, including Business Strategy, Industrial IoT, Enterprise Technology Solutions, Executive Advisory & Decision Support, Operational Excellence and Process Reengineering,” the Safaricom CEO said in a statement.

Safaricom has had a couple of changes in its executive roles including the recent appointment of John Ngumi to its board to replace Michael Joseph, the telco’s first ever CEO. Positions that are yet to be filled include Rosemary Kimwatu’s and Sylvia Mulinge’s.
