Spotify Signs A Partnership With FC Barcelona To Launch Special Coldplay Jerseys
Spotify has once again brought together the worlds of music and football through its unique partnership with FC Barcelona. This time, the club’s jersey will proudly feature the logo of the iconic British band Coldplay, in celebration of their 10th album, Moon Music, which debuted on October 4th, securing the number one spot on Spotify’s global charts.
Coldplay holds a special place on Spotify as the most-streamed British band of all time, boasting an impressive 12 tracks in the Spotify Billions Club, the most for any band on the platform. Fans worldwide have added Coldplay’s music to over 100 million user-generated playlists, cementing their global influence. Among FC Barcelona fans, Coldplay’s song “Viva la Vida” carries extra significance, having become the unofficial anthem of the club during the triumphant 2008-09 season.
The Moon Music-inspired logo will adorn FC Barcelona’s kit in two important fixtures—the men’s El Clásico showdown against Real Madrid on October 26th and the women’s Liga F match against Eibar on November 2nd. This special collaboration highlights how both Coldplay and FC Barcelona unite global audiences, celebrating shared moments of joy and human connection, whether through football or music. The logo itself was inspired by a design from a Coldplay fan, exemplifying the band’s deep connection with their supporters.
This initiative marks the latest artist collaboration through the groundbreaking partnership between Spotify and FC Barcelona, following previous shirt takeovers by stars like KAROL G, The Rolling Stones, ROSALÍA, and Drake. In celebration of this union, FC Barcelona will also release a Coldplay-curated edition of its popular Barça Matchday playlist, designed to energize players and fans alike before the big game.
For collectors and fans, a limited-edition version of the FC Barcelona jersey will be available for purchase from October 18th, with a pre-sale starting on October 17th at 11:30 PM CEST. Only 1,899 jerseys, paying homage to the club’s founding year, will be made available. Furthermore, for die-hard supporters, 22 exclusive glow-in-the-dark jerseys will be on offer—11 signed by the men’s starting team and 11 by the women’s starting team. All proceeds from these limited-edition jerseys will benefit The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), continuing the club’s partnership with the UNHCR that began in 2022, aimed at raising awareness for the plight of refugees.
In addition to the jersey, Spotify, FC Barcelona, and Coldplay are launching a limited-edition lifestyle collection featuring t-shirts, hoodies, and scarves. This collection brings together the celestial imagery of Moon Music and FC Barcelona’s iconic colors, further extending the collaboration’s reach. A portion of the proceeds from the merchandise will also go to support UNHCR’s work.
Coldplay expressed their excitement about the partnership, saying: “We’re honored that Spotify has chosen to feature our Moon Music design on the shirt of FC Barcelona. We’ve had a special relationship with the city and the club for many years. We’re also proud to support the UNHCR in their life-saving work to protect refugees and displaced people around the world. Heartfelt thanks to Spotify and FC Barcelona for making this happen.”
Marc Hazan, Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing at Spotify, also shared his thoughts: “Coldplay is one of the most beloved bands in the world on Spotify, and their storied connection to Barça runs deep. We are thrilled to celebrate that history with fans worldwide through the iconic Barça jersey. The release of Moon Music is a perfect moment to celebrate the power of football and music’s ability to bring people together.”
Juli Guiu, FC Barcelona’s Vice President of Marketing, echoed these sentiments: “We are delighted that through our partnership with Spotify, Coldplay will feature on the FC Barcelona shirt for El Clásico. The band and the club have a mutual love which stretches back many years—from the band visiting training sessions to Barça players attending Coldplay’s live concerts in Barcelona, to the band’s music soundtracking some of the club’s best moments.”
